Sugarland

Sugarland’s Kristian Bush recalls his reaction when fans first started to sing along to their songs in concert.

“I’d seek those people out and give them a guitar pick,” he says with a laugh. “Now I don’t have near enough picks.”

That’s what happens when the world falls in love with your music. It’s already been a year of extraordinary firsts for Sugarland, the chart-topping singer-songwriter duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. For starters, their Mercury Nashville debut, Twice the Speed of Life, was certified Double Platinum. In addition, they received the award for Breakthrough Favorite New Artist at the American Music Awards (their competition included artists from all genres of music.) Plus, radio and fans alike have embraced all of their singles: “Baby Girl,” “Something More,” “Just Might (Make Me Believe)” and “Down in Mississippi (Up To No Good).”

Heart

"We got an urge."
So says Nancy Wilson on the impetus for Jupiters Darling, the first new studio album from Heart in nearly a dozen years and a convincing case that the fire and spirit of real rock & roll is alive and well.

All things considered, it's a natural point of departure for Nancy and Ann Wilson, considering that over their illustrious career, Heart has always made urgent, immediate and compelling music. Simply put, following their creative impulses has made Heart one of the most innovative and enduring musical partnerships of our time.

It's a creative chemistry that has, to date, yielded sales of well over thirty million albums, with over twenty Top 40 hits and live shows that sell out stadiums whenever and wherever Heart performs.

The Vegas Years, a collection of cover songs was released April 15, 2008 by Capitol Records. It contains a mix of newly recorded, previously released, live, and remixed older covers. To celebrate the release, Art and the band hosted a live video chat. They confirmed they will be touring in the summer of 2008. They also plan to release a series of singles for download online in the summer. The first single will be a new song entitled "Jesus Was a Liberal" with a b-side likely to be "Here Comes the Darkness."
311

In April of 2007, 311 confirmed plans for the "Summer Unity Tour", which ran 50 shows from late June through late August, one of their longest to date. Several opening acts featured throughout the tour. Reggae artist Matisyahu was part of most of the trek, with bands Shootyz Groove, The Rivalry, Particle, The English Beat, The Dirty Heads. After the tour, 311 confirmed they are working on an album for 2009. The band stated that the album would explore more jamming sessions that are captured in their live shows.

On November 6, 2007, 311 announced they would be returning to the city of New Orleans for 311 Day 2008, as part of their spring tour, which for the first time included shows in Canada. Once there 311 announced that the 2008 Summer Unity Tour would also include Snoop Dogg in the lineup.

311's classic song "My Stoney Baby" off their album Music, was featured in the movie Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and on the movie's soundtrack as well. Their radio hit "Amber" was used in the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Styx

Styx has had a total of eight Billboard Top Ten singles, seven written and sung by Dennis DeYoung and one written and sung by Tommy Shaw. One of those singles, "Babe", hit number one for two weeks. They have had a total of sixteen Billboard Top 40 singles and twenty-three Billboard Hot 100 singles. Styx is one of a handful of acts that had Billboard Top Ten singles in three decades (70s, 80s, 90s) and under four different presidential administrations (Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush).

From 1977 to 1981, Styx released four consecutive albums that have been certified Multi-Platinum (signifying at least 2 million units sold) by the RIAA: The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone, and Paradise Theatre. They were the first band recognized to have achieved this feat when the RIAA began certifying Multi-Platinum albums in 1984. A longstanding, oft-repeated claim in the music industry and the mainstream press is that Styx were the first band to release four consecutive triple-platinum albums, signifying at least 3 million units sold.
